SoAHS Students Attend Thrive @ Campus Orientation Programme
As part of the campus orientation programme, an interactive session titled “Thrive @ Campus: Behavioural Expectations” was conducted by Col. Jayram on 29 May 2026 from 9:45 AM onwards at the FT04 Classroom, 3rd Floor, F Block.
The session focused on fostering discipline, responsibility, emotional regulation, and professional behaviour among students within the academic environment. Through engaging discussions and practical examples, students gained valuable insights into various aspects of campus life, including personal discipline, accountability, dress code, social media etiquette, personal reputation, and the importance of living in the present moment through the concept of the “Power of Now”.
A key highlight of the session was the “Pressure Cooker Analogy”, which Col. Jayram used to explain behavioural outbursts and anger management. He emphasised that emotions such as anger are often visible surface reactions, while the underlying causes may include unmanaged stress, academic pressure, emotional burdens, or personal challenges. The analogy encouraged students to reflect on their own behaviours and identify the root causes of emotional reactions.
The session also highlighted the importance of maintaining professionalism and discipline within the campus community. Students were guided on:
- Demonstrating respectful behaviour towards peers, faculty members, and staff.
- Managing stress and emotions in a healthy and constructive manner.
- Maintaining an appropriate dress code and professional appearance.
- Using social media platforms responsibly and ethically.
- Building and sustaining a positive personal and institutional reputation.
- Taking ownership of their actions, decisions, and responsibilities.
Practical strategies for managing anger and maintaining self-discipline in academic settings were also discussed. Students were encouraged to practise self-awareness, respond calmly during challenging situations, communicate respectfully, and adopt constructive problem-solving approaches rather than reacting emotionally.
The concept of the “Power of Now” was introduced to motivate students to remain focused on the present, utilise their time effectively, and avoid unnecessary anxiety about past events or future uncertainties.
The session was highly engaging, insightful, and thought-provoking. It provided students with valuable guidance on behavioural maturity, emotional intelligence, and professional conduct, while reinforcing the importance of creating a respectful, disciplined, and positive campus culture.
