About NSS at Presidency University
NSS was established at Presidency University in 2017, starting with one unit. Today, the program has grown to 8 units with a total strength of 800 volunteers each year, including both male and female students.
The NSS program is overseen by Mrs. Renuka Bhagwat, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, School of Engineering, who serves as the NSS Program Coordinator. She is supported by 8 Program Officers and 16 Student Unit Leaders, ensuring effective management and active engagement of all volunteers.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Presidency University embodies our commitment to community service, social responsibility, and holistic student development. Established by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in 1969, NSS aims to engage students in meaningful community service while fostering personal growth and civic responsibility.
Shaping Responsible Citizens
The NCC enhances the awareness level of cadets to become responsible citizens of the country and encourages them to enrich their knowledge, develop communication skills, and build character.
The Symbol
The NSS symbol is based on the 'Rath' wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life, representing continuity and change. It stands for the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment. The eight bars of the wheel represent the 24 hours of the day, reminding volunteers to be in readiness for service to the nation round the clock. nss.gov.in
Objectives
