Incubator

Presidency Group of Institutions (PGI), along with the University, has registered a Presidency LaunchPad Association (Section 8 Company) Incubator on 2nd February 2022, to handhold aspiring entrepreneurs and provide facilities and assistance to start, incubate, and successfully run businesses. Presidency University envisions Presidency LaunchPad as one of the leading incubators in the country, located in a rural region. All of the existing infrastructure and laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment will be made available to the incubated start-ups.

The Presidency Launchpad seeks to promote Technology Business Incubators (TBI) that involve innovation and societally important and environmentally relevant technologies, promote entrepreneurial ideas among students, facilitate collaborations with startups, and empower students to innovate and unlock their inner potential.

Innovative Projects

Presidency University has introduced a course on Innovative Projects to freshmen, and this has created endless possibilities amongst the students. Freshers are divided into project teams, and an internal panel chooses 100 top projects, which go through a final round of selection with industry experts choosing the best ten from these exhibits.

The young cohorts get ready to take on responsibilities and gradually ease into their career roles later. Introducing the program quite early in their student life helps them to move ahead with the same research bent of mind, ensuring that learners gain knowledge through participative learning.

The availability of resources, be they extensive laboratory facilities or interdisciplinary mentors, makes this a strategic plan that is capable of seeing many ideas transform into projects. An idea for a startup, a seed for an enterprise, the making of an entrepreneur- the possibilities are endless at this university.

Presidency University is one of the eight partner institutions in collaboration with IIT-M’s Build Club, and students are mentored by IIT-M’s Centre for Innovation.

Consultancy

Consultancy projects enrich the academic experience of both the faculty and the students.

The SVAMITVA project, which is a centrally launched scheme, is a reformative step towards the establishment of clear ownership of property in rural inhabited (Abadi) areas by mapping land parcels using drone technology. In partnership with Clear Water Dynamics, the university uses drones to map the Chittoor and Tirupati districts of Andhra Pradesh, with five students on the ground operating the drone and mapping 500 sq. Km. A student team was involved in data processing. It took about 18 to 22 hours to render a map, and the entire project took about four months to reach completion. Apart from generating revenue, such projects strengthen the collaboration between industry and academia and provide valuable exposure to students.

It is a matter of great pride that Presidency University is the first university in Karnataka to get a high-end, advanced PPK drone, which is used in consultancy projects. With 8 students, 2 lab instructors, and 3 faculty overseeing the project, students take up projects for the Government of Karnataka to map areas in the state.

The university is also working on a lake rejuvenation project in the lakes in and around Rajanukunte. This would help in monitoring flooding in the area, recharging groundwater aquifers, preventing runoff, and help in mapping the area for timely intervention, especially in the wake of the September deluge in Bengaluru. The department collaborates with TIDE in skill building in the peri-urban area of Rajanukunte as part of the university’s outreach activities in the neighborhood.
