;

On 24 April 2026, students of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS), Presidency University, Bengaluru, undertook a field visit to Mother Teresa Home (Nirmal Hriday) as part of their experiential learning initiative. The visit included participants from the MSc Psychology and BA English & Psychology programmes.

Operated by the Missionaries of Charity, the home provides residential and palliative care to elderly, chronically ill, and socially abandoned individuals. The visit was conducted with sensitivity and respect, ensuring meaningful engagement within the institutional framework.

Students interacted with residents through musical performances, a short theatrical presentation, and one-on-one conversations, creating moments of warmth and emotional connection. These activities were thoughtfully designed to foster empathy while maintaining the dignity and comfort of the residents.

From an academic perspective, the visit offered valuable exposure to geriatric psychological dynamics, particularly the emotional impact of social isolation, resilience, and the importance of human connection. Students reflected on these experiences in relation to counselling and developmental psychology frameworks, while also using expressive and narrative techniques to build rapport.

The visit reinforced key values such as empathy, active listening, and ethical responsibility, highlighting the role of psychosocial care in community settings. It served as a meaningful bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application, contributing to the holistic development of SoLAS students.

Overall, the initiative stands as a significant example of community-engaged learning, fostering both professional competence and social awareness.
