The Hindustan International Furniture Fair (HIFF), held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bengaluru, is a B2B exhibition showcasing finished furniture, contemporary furniture collections, interior décor products, raw materials, manufacturing technologies and innovative furniture solutions. The exhibition provides a platform for designers, manufacturers, suppliers and industry professionals to explore emerging trends, understand production techniques and gain insights into the evolving furniture and interior design industry.

The visit offered two B.Des Space Design students valuable exposure to a wide range of furniture typologies, materials, surface finishes, construction techniques and manufacturing processes. They explored the application of materials such as wood, engineered boards, metals, glass, upholstery fabrics and laminates, along with other contemporary furniture finishes. They also observed how material selection influences aesthetics, durability, functionality and maintenance.

Interactions and discussions on furniture production provided insights into manufacturing methods, joinery, assembly systems, modular construction, surface treatments, upholstery and finishing techniques. The students also gained an understanding of how material availability, quality, production methods, customisation, labour and manufacturing scale influence furniture costs and market positioning.

Comparing different products helped them recognise the relationship between design complexity, material specifications, workmanship and final product pricing.
