SOD Celebrates National Handloom Day and World Photography Day 2026
The Department of Fashion Design, in collaboration with the Department of Multimedia, School of Design, successfully organised a combined celebration of National Handloom Day and World Photography Day 2026, creating an interdisciplinary platform that brought together India’s rich textile heritage and contemporary visual storytelling.
The event focused on raising awareness of handloom traditions, sustainable fashion, indigenous crafts, and the valuable contributions of artisans through exhibitions, expert talks, artisan interactions, and live demonstrations. The World Photography Day celebration further showcased student creativity through a Photography Exhibition, Canon Experience Zone, Photography Basics Workshop, and Prize Distribution Ceremony.
The event provided students with an opportunity to creatively document and interpret handlooms, artisans, textile processes, traditional motifs, and cultural narratives through photography, strengthening the interdisciplinary connection between Fashion Design and Multimedia.
Overall, the celebration successfully bridged traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design and visual communication, while promoting sustainability, cultural heritage, creativity, and interdisciplinary learning among students.
