The Presidency School of Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education, successfully organised the 12th International Yoga Day celebration on 19 June 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM near the Canopy Area, Glass Building Pathway, Presidency University. The event was conducted in alignment with the global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

 

The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, stress management, flexibility, and healthy ageing. Students, faculty members, and staff enthusiastically participated in the session, dressed in white to symbolise peace, harmony, and wellness.

 

The event commenced with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of International Yoga Day and the role of yoga in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Participants were guided through various yogic practices, including pranayama (breathing exercises), stretching exercises, and selected yoga asanas aimed at improving balance, flexibility, strength, and relaxation.

 

The session emphasised the benefits of regular yoga practice in enhancing physical health, reducing stress, improving concentration, and supporting healthy ageing. Participants actively engaged in all activities and demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout the programme. The celebration concluded with a meditation and relaxation session, followed by a vote of thanks.

 

The event successfully increased awareness regarding the importance of yoga for healthy ageing and enhanced participants’ understanding of the physical and mental health benefits of regular yoga practice. It encouraged students and staff to incorporate yoga into their daily routines and promoted overall wellness, stress management, and healthy living. The programme effectively reinforced the importance of a holistic approach to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
