The School of Computer Science and Engineering organised an Educational Industry Visit–2026 titled “From Numbers to Nature: Interdisciplinary Learning Blending Statistics, Mathematics and Computer Science with Agriculture” on 27 August 2026, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The visit was conducted at the College of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, Bengaluru, with the participation of 52 students and four faculty members. Convened by Dr Gopal Krishna Shyam and coordinated by Mrs Pushpa C, Assistant Professor/CSE, the visit aimed to connect classroom concepts with practical applications in modern agriculture.

The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to precision agriculture, sensor-based farm automation, hydroponics, precision irrigation, greenhouse cultivation and sustainable farming practices. Participants also explored agri-engineering applications such as agricultural machinery, post-harvest processing and automation, along with the use of data collection, analytics and computer-based tools in crop management, soil health, crop physiology and yield prediction. Through expert interactions, discussions and real-time demonstrations, students gained a deeper understanding of how statistics, mathematics and computer science contribute to agricultural research, farm management and environmental monitoring.

The industry visit strengthened students’ interdisciplinary learning by demonstrating the practical integration of technology, data and agriculture. It enhanced their awareness of emerging agri-technologies while highlighting the importance of sustainable farming, data-driven decision-making and automation in addressing modern agricultural challenges. The experience successfully bridged theoretical learning with real-world applications and encouraged students to appreciate the growing role of computer science and quantitative methods in the future of agriculture.
