Presidency University, Bengaluru, has further strengthened its campus sports facilities with the inauguration of a new outdoor sports infrastructure designed to encourage greater student participation, fitness, recreation and competitive sporting activities.

The new sports zone brings together dedicated facilities for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, throwball and air badminton, creating a vibrant and versatile sporting environment for students across the University.

The inauguration ceremony was held on 06 August 2026 at 3:15 PM in the presence of Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Nissar Ahmed; Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. J. Thiruvengadam; Provost Dr. Dinesh Nilkant; Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty; Registrar Dr. Venkateswaran S, along with University officials, faculty members, staff, coaches and students.

Expanding Opportunities for Sports and Fitness

The newly developed sports facilities are part of the University's continued efforts to create a dynamic campus environment that supports students beyond the classroom.

The new outdoor sports zone includes:

  • Two basketball courts for practice, training, recreation and competitive matches.

  • Two astro-turf volleyball courts for regular training, team practice and tournaments.

  • Two dedicated pickleball courts for recreational and competitive play.

  • One throwball court for practice, team activities and competitions.

  • One PP-tiled air badminton court providing an additional outdoor racquet-sport facility.

  • LED floodlighting around major outdoor facilities to support extended hours of sporting activity.

The combination of multiple sporting facilities within a single outdoor zone provides students with greater access to sports and creates more opportunities for simultaneous training, recreation and competitions.

Basketball Facilities

The two new outdoor basketball courts provide dedicated spaces for regular team practice, skill development, coaching and competitive preparation.

The courts can also accommodate selection trials, inter-class and intra-University competitions, student recreation and University sports events, giving basketball enthusiasts more opportunities to train and participate throughout the year.

Volleyball Facilities

The University's new sports zone features two astro-turf outdoor volleyball courts, equipped with court markings, net systems, perimeter fencing and supporting lighting.

The courts provide an ideal setting for team training, skill development, coaching sessions, selection trials and competitive matches. The facilities are also expected to encourage greater participation in volleyball and create opportunities for students to develop coordination, communication, agility and teamwork.

Pickleball Makes Its Mark

Adding to the University's growing range of sporting options are two dedicated pickleball courts with clearly marked playing areas and net systems.

The courts provide students with opportunities to learn and enjoy the sport, participate in coached practice sessions and take part in recreational and competitive matches. With two courts available, students can engage in activities ranging from beginner sessions to organised competitions.

Throwball and Air Badminton

The new sports zone also includes a dedicated throwball court, providing space for team practice, recreation and competitive activities.

An outdoor PP-tiled air badminton court further expands the range of sporting options available to students. The facility enables students to enjoy badminton in an outdoor setting while supporting practice, recreation and organised activities.

A More Vibrant Sporting Environment

Beyond the inpidual facilities, the new sports zone creates an integrated outdoor environment where students can come together to play, train, compete and unwind.

The supporting infrastructure includes LED floodlighting, perimeter fencing, netting systems and clearly marked playing surfaces, helping create a comfortable and organised setting for sporting activities.

The facilities also provide opportunities for the University to host a wider range of inter-collegiate competitions, University sporting events, coaching programmes and student activities.

Sports and Holistic Student Development

At Presidency University, sports are an important part of campus life and student development. Participation in sporting activities helps students stay physically active while developing valuable qualities such as teamwork, discipline, communication, confidence, leadership and resilience.

The new facilities provide students with more avenues to pursue their sporting interests, develop their skills and build lasting connections with their peers.

The inauguration itself brought together members of the University community, reflecting the shared enthusiasm for creating a more active and engaging campus environment.

Looking Ahead

The new outdoor sports infrastructure marks another step towards building a vibrant sporting culture at Presidency University.

With facilities spanning multiple sports and supporting both recreational and competitive activities, the University looks forward to seeing students make the most of these spaces through regular practice, competitions, training programmes and campus sporting events.

The new sports zone stands as a reflection of Presidency University's commitment to creating a healthy, active and engaging campus experience, where students have the opportunity to grow both on and off the field.
