The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Presidency School of Engineering, in association with ISHRAE and the Mechanical Forum, organised a technical seminar on “Technical Parameters of HVAC Insulation” on 27 August 2026 at L Block Basement Seminar Hall. The session, convened and coordinated by Dr Prashanth S. P., was attended by 110 students, four faculty members and one external participantMr Ramanathan Annamalai, an industry expert specialising in HVAC systems, served as the resource person.

The session provided students with industry-oriented insights into HVAC insulation, thermal dynamics and material selection. Key topics included the modes of heat transfer—conduction, convection and radiation—thermal conductivity of elastomeric foam in relation to mean temperature, insulation materials and their selection, and the advantages and limitations of different insulation types. The expert also discussed current market trends in insulation upgrades, helping participants understand practical considerations in modern HVAC applications.

The seminar enhanced students’ understanding of thermal conductivity, insulation performance and industry practices, while developing their ability to evaluate HVAC insulation materials based on technical requirements. The interactive presentation and Q&A session helped bridge the gap between classroom theory and industrial applications, while providing valuable exposure to current market expectations. The event also strengthened industry–academia engagement and encouraged students to seek further industry-led learning opportunities for career readiness.
