The Department of Civil Engineering, Presidency University, Bengaluru, organised an insightful international webinar on Net Zero Buildings in association with the University of Liverpool on 6 May 2026. The event aimed to raise awareness of sustainable and energy-efficient building practices.

The session was delivered by Dr. Haniyeh M. Karbasi, Senior Lecturer in Low Carbon Architecture at the University of Liverpool. She highlighted the growing importance of achieving net zero targets in the built environment through innovative design strategies, renewable energy integration and sustainable construction technologies.

The webinar provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of key concepts, including energy-efficient building envelopes, passive design techniques, low-carbon materials, building performance optimisation and the role of digital technologies in sustainable infrastructure. Real-world case studies and global examples illustrated the challenges and opportunities in transitioning towards carbon-neutral buildings and resilient urban development.

The session also emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, supportive policy frameworks and emerging career opportunities in sustainable construction and green building technologies. Overall, the webinar significantly enhanced students’ understanding of climate-responsive design and underscored the critical role of engineers and architects in building a sustainable future.
