Dept of Civil Engg Hosts Guest Lecture on Skill Sets and Career Avenues
The Department of Civil Engineering, in association with ACCE (I) – Student Chapter, Presidency University, organised a guest lecture on “Avenues in Civil Engineering – Importance of Skill Sets” in the presence of the Head of the Department, Dr Nakul Ramanna, faculty members and students. The session was delivered by Er. Nagesh Puttaswamy, Former Chairman, ACCE (I) – Bangalore Chapter, who shared valuable industry insights and practical perspectives with the participants.
The event was coordinated by faculty members Mr Ajay H A, Mr Santhosh M B and Mr Gopalakrishnan, whose efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.
The lecture focused on the significance of essential skill sets required in the civil engineering profession. The speaker emphasised the importance of construction management practices, effective communication, teamwork, leadership and professional ethics in achieving successful project outcomes. He highlighted the need for engineers to complement technical knowledge with interpersonal and managerial competencies to excel in today’s evolving infrastructure sector.
The session also explored diverse career avenues across various disciplines of civil engineering, including structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental and construction engineering. In addition, the speaker provided insights into opportunities for higher studies, research pathways and long-term professional growth.
The event was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Decent Work and Economic Growth, reinforcing the importance of innovation and fostering a productive and healthy working environment within the engineering profession.
