Awareness Session on Preventive Behaviour Around Animals

30-January-2026

The Tails and Trails Club of the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), Presidency University, organised an Awareness Session on “Preventive Behaviour Around Animals, First Aid for Animal Bites and Immediate Reporting Protocols” on 30th January 2026 at Seminar Hall 1.

The session featured an expert talk by Dr. Krithiga N., Veterinary Microbiologist and Scientist, who sensitised students on safe and responsible interaction with animals and the importance of timely medical intervention following animal bites or scratches.

Dr. Krithiga elaborated on preventive behaviour around animals, helping students understand how to read a dog’s body language and recognise key warning signs of stress or aggression. She also discussed effective dog bite prevention strategies and highlighted the symptoms of rabies in dogs, clearly differentiating between furious rabies and paralytic rabies.

The session further covered immediate first aid measures to be taken in case of animal bites, the significance of Rabies Immunoglobulin, and the necessity of following immediate reporting protocols. Students were also informed about relevant helpline numbers to report animal bite incidents and curb dog bite cases.

The awareness programme was highly informative and empowered students with practical knowledge, promoting public health, safety, and humane coexistence with animals.
