Comprehensive waste reduction program

Reinforcing its commitment to a zero-waste future, Presidency University has partnered with Central Waste Management System (CWMS) for advanced waste segregation and recycling

Across the campus, waste is segregated at source into plastic, dry, and wet categories. The plastic and dry waste are further processed at the CWMS facility, where a secondary segregation compresses 50–100 kilograms of waste into bales across 18 material categories—including plastics, PET bottles, paper cups, cardboard boxes, and tissues. These are supplied to industries that repurpose them into products such as plyboards, buckets, and hose pipes.

Remarkably, only about 3% of the total waste generated is non-recyclable, which is then sent to cement factories as raw material—ensuring that almost nothing goes to landfill.
