BBA Course Details: Eligibility, Admission and Careers
Many Class 12 students like the idea of business but are unsure what a business degree actually involves. Parents often ask sharper questions: Is maths needed? Can a science student switch? What will the three years teach that a job cannot? This guide sets out the BBA course details that answer those questions: what the degree is, who is eligible, how admission works, what you study and how to compare programmes before you apply.
What is a BBA course?
BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is an undergraduate degree that introduces the main functions of an organisation: accounting and finance, marketing, people management, operations, law and strategy. Most BBA programmes in India run for three years over six semesters, and some universities also offer a four-year honours option, so check the duration on each programme page.
At Presidency University, the Bachelor of Business Administration is a three-year, full-time programme. Its 2026–29 programme regulations describe a six-semester structure with 120 credits under a choice-based credit system. By the end of a BBA, you should be able to read basic financial statements, analyse a business problem, present a recommendation and work in a team, which is a foundation for a first job or for postgraduate study.
BBA eligibility criteria
The core requirement is a pass in Class 12 (PUC or equivalent) from a recognised board. Minimum marks differ by university. Presidency’s BBA page asks for 40% aggregate marks, including languages, in PUC, 10+2 or an equivalent examination. The same threshold appears on the pages for BBA Business Analytics, BBA Aviation Management and BBA Digital Marketing, while BBA Digital Business asks for 50%.
Students from any stream can apply. Presidency’s BBA page confirms that science and arts students are eligible, and it does not list maths as a required Class 12 subject. Be ready for numbers anyway: the curriculum includes business statistics, accounting and operations research.
BBA admission process
Admission routes vary, so read each university’s current notice.
- Merit-based admission: many universities shortlist on Class 12 marks, sometimes followed by a personal interaction.
- Common entrance tests: central and participating universities use CUET (UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency. CUET (UG) 2026 began on 11 May 2026; as of October 2026, the 2027 schedule has not been announced.
- University tests and interviews: some institutions run their own aptitude test, group discussion or interview.
The usual stages are application, merit list or test, interview where applicable, document verification and fee payment. Presidency’s BBA regulations set the Class 12 eligibility threshold and apply reservation as directed by the Government of Karnataka. Admissions are open for the 2027–30 BBA batch at Presidency University; for current steps and deadlines, check the university’s admission notifications.
BBA subjects and specialisations
The first year builds foundations; later years add depth and choice. Presidency’s 2026–29 BBA regulations list core courses such as:
- Fundamentals of Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting and Business Finance
- Managerial Economics and Business Environment
- Principles of Management, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management
- Introduction to Marketing, International Business and Strategic Management
- Business Statistics, Operations Research and Business Research Methods
- Business Law, Essentials of Taxation, Business Information Systems and AI for Managers
Skill courses cover spreadsheets and data analysis, and the structure includes a summer internship and a dissertation. The curriculum shown on the programme web page uses slightly different course titles, so check the regulations for your batch.
BBA (General) specialisation track | Examples of courses |
Finance | Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Financial Modelling, Derivatives and Risk Management |
Marketing | Consumer Behaviour, Brand Management, Sales & Distribution Management |
Human Resource Management | Training and Development, Performance and Compensation Management, HR Analytics |
E-Commerce and Supply Chain Management | Global Supply Chain Management, Export and Import Management, Warehouse Management |
Some universities also offer BBA degrees built around one industry or function. Presidency’s School of Management lists BBA Business Analytics, BBA Digital Marketing, BBA Digital Business, BBA Aviation Management and BBA Hospitality Management. Choose a focused degree only if you are fairly sure of the field; a general BBA with a specialisation track keeps more options open.
Skills developed during BBA
A good BBA develops four groups of skills. Management skills include planning, organising and decision-making. Communication covers reports, presentations and negotiation. Analytical skills include working with spreadsheets, interpreting data and building a simple financial model. Leadership grows through group projects, internships and student activities. Employers value evidence of these skills, such as a project report or internship output, more than a list of subjects.
Career options after BBA
BBA graduates often start in roles such as business development, marketing, sales, operations, human resources, financial analysis, supply chain or management trainee programmes. Presidency’s BBA page lists similar roles and entrepreneurship. Starting roles and pay depend on the employer, city and your skills; for a fuller picture, read our guide to careers after BBA and the options for government jobs after BBA.
Many graduates continue to an MBA after some work experience or straight after the degree. Our guide to MBA eligibility explains the entry requirements, and Presidency’s School of Management offers an MBA with specialisations in areas such as finance, marketing and business analytics. Professional routes such as CA, CS or CMA follow their own institutes’ rules.
How to choose a BBA programme
Compare programmes on evidence, not brochures:
- Curriculum: read the programme regulations for your batch, the specialisation tracks and the electives actually offered.
- Internships and projects: check whether an internship and a dissertation are part of the credit structure.
- Faculty: look at teaching experience, industry exposure and research.
- Placement support: ask how the placement process works and request verified, batch-wise data rather than headline figures.
- Recognition and total cost: confirm the university is recognised by the UGC and add up all fees, not just the first year.
