SOMS Welcomes New Students at Deeksharambh 2026

The School of Media Studies (SOMS), Presidency University, warmly welcomed its new batch of students and their parents during Deeksharambh 2026, the orientation programme marking the beginning of their academic journey.

 

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by inspiring addresses from the University's leadership. Prof. S. J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor, Dr Venkateswaran S., Registrar, Dr Dinesh Nilkant, Provost, and Dr Ashish Sharma, Head of the School of Media Studies, welcomed the students and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunities available at the University.

 

The School was honoured to welcome Ms Kavya Christopher, Editor – The Times of India, South Zone Metro Supplements, as the Guest of Honour. During her engaging session, she shared valuable insights into journalism, storytelling, media careers, and the rapidly evolving media industry, inspiring students to pursue their aspirations with confidence and creativity.

 

As part of the orientation programme, students also toured the campus, exploring key learning facilities, including the Media Studio, Podcast Lab, Editing and Designing Lab, Psychology Lab, Language Lab, and other academic and student support facilities.

 

Deeksharambh 2026 marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the new cohort, and the School of Media Studies looks forward to nurturing their creativity, communication skills, and professional growth as they prepare for successful careers in the media and communication industry.
