SOMS | Students Explore Filmmaking Beyond the Classroom at BISFF 2026
The School of Media Studies (SOMS) and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SOLAS) organised an academic visit to the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival (BISFF) 2026 on 14 August 2026 at Suchitra Cultural Academy, Bengaluru.
First launched in 2010 with 40 submitted films, BISFF has since grown into one of India’s leading short film festivals, attracting thousands of entries from across the world each year. It is also India’s only Oscar-accredited short film festival, with its Indian, International, and Animation competition sections qualifying winning entries for Academy Award consideration.
Beyond film screenings, the festival features talks, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops led by industry professionals, providing emerging filmmakers with opportunities to learn, engage, and network.
A group of 25 students participated in the visit, gaining practical exposure to filmmaking, storytelling, cinematography, editing, and other aspects of film production. The students attended film screenings, explored perse cinematic narratives, and gained insights into the creative processes behind short films.
The students were accompanied by Mr Rahul Dadhich, Dr Musheera Ashraf, and Mr Arun Choudhury, who guided them throughout the visit.
The BISFF experience enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world filmmaking practices, making it a valuable and enriching academic experience.
