SOM - Panel Discussion on Union Budget 2026
The School of Management, Presidency University, organised a panel discussion on “Union Budget 2026: From Policy Vision to Business Reality”, aligned with the theme “Yuva Shakti–Driven Budget for Viksit Bharat”.
The session examined key Budget indicators, including ₹53.5 lakh crore in total expenditure, ₹12.2 lakh crore in capital expenditure, a fiscal deficit of 4.3%, and a debt–GDP ratio of 55.6%, highlighting the balance between growth and fiscal discipline. Prof. Sandeep Nair spoke on the macroeconomic outlook and fiscal strategy, explaining deficit sustainability and the role of public capital expenditure in stimulating private investment and economic growth. Dr B. V. Muralikrishna discussed tax policy reforms and compliance, emphasising simplification, transparency and ease of doing business.
Under the sub-theme “Practical Tax Implications for Individuals and Businesses”, CA Naresh Kumar Hotta, Partner, RSSN & Associates, presented real-world tax and compliance implications for individuals and corporates.
The interactive discussion enabled students to analyse fiscal consolidation, investment stimulus and the impact of taxation. The panellists stressed that strong policy intent must be supported by effective implementation.
The panel discussion was moderated by CA (Dr) Pramod Kumar Pandey.
Outcome: Students gained practical insights into macroeconomic policy, fiscal strategy and taxation.
Conclusion: The event strengthened academic–industry linkages and enhanced students’ understanding of Budget 2026.
