SOLAS Welcomes New Postgraduate Cohort at Orientation 2026
The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS), Presidency University, commenced its PG Inaugural and Orientation Programme 2026 on 3 September 2026. Scheduled from 3 to 9 September, the programme was organised to welcome newly admitted postgraduate students and familiarise them with the University's academic environment, institutional systems, facilities and opportunities.
The first day began with student and parent registration, followed by the formal inaugural session. Dr Pritha Sanyal, Head, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, welcomed the new cohort and their parents and introduced them to the School's academic ethos and aspirations. The programme also featured an introduction to the University leadership, along with addresses by Dr S. J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor, and Dr Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor, who encouraged students to make the most of their postgraduate journey.
Mr Yasir Mushtaq from the Press Club Bangalore, the Chief Guest, shared his experiences and perspectives, encouraging students to view postgraduate education as an opportunity for intellectual, personal and professional growth. The inaugural proceedings concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr Ashish Sharma, followed by an interaction with Dr Shahid, Joint Registrar, who familiarised students with key aspects of university life and the institutional environment.
The post-inaugural sessions provided students with an overview of the University's assessment and examination processes, ERP and IT facilities, digital platforms and library resources. A guided campus visit further introduced them to key academic facilities, including the Media Lab, Psychology Lab and Language Lab. The day's activities offered the new postgraduate cohort a comprehensive introduction to the University's academic systems, resources and learning environment.
