Presidency School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS), Presidency University, Bengaluru, successfully inaugurated its Civil Services Preparation Programme in collaboration with Shankar IAS Academy on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at RF04. The inaugural masterclass marked the formal commencement of the programme, providing students with an opportunity to begin their preparation for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination alongside their undergraduate studies.

 

The session was conducted by Dr. Raja, IAS, and Mr. Premanand, Head of Shankar IAS Academy, Karnataka. Students from various schools of the University participated enthusiastically, marking the beginning of their journey towards a career in the civil services.

 

Dr. Raja, IAS, delivered an insightful orientation on the Civil Services Examination, familiarising students with its structure, stages, expectations, and the qualities required to succeed. Drawing upon his experience as a civil servant, he highlighted the importance of discipline, perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and consistent preparation. He also encouraged students to view the civil services as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society through public administration and governance.

 

Mr. Premanand provided a comprehensive overview of the three-year Civil Services Preparation Programme offered through the collaboration between Presidency University and Shankar IAS Academy. He explained the progressive structure of the programme, beginning with foundational learning and gradually advancing towards intensive examination-oriented preparation. He elaborated on the curriculum, training methodology, examination strategies, and the importance of integrating civil services preparation with regular academic studies. He also informed students about the special fee concessions available under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions, enabling them to access the programme at a significantly subsidised fee payable in multiple instalments.

 

The inaugural masterclass marked an important milestone in the University's efforts to provide students with opportunities for competitive examination preparation and career development. Through this collaboration, Presidency University aims to create a structured and supportive learning environment that enables aspiring civil servants to prepare systematically while pursuing their undergraduate education. The session concluded with students gaining a clearer understanding of the examination process, the progression of the training programme, and the commitment required to pursue a career in the Indian civil services.
