SoLAS and DSA Host Second IELTS Masterclass on Listening Skills

14-October-2026

The Presidency School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SoLAS), in association with the IELTS Club of the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), Presidency University, Bengaluru, successfully organised the second IELTS Masterclass of the semester on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, from 2.30 pm to 4.15 pm. The session focused on listening skills and was led by Ms Sathi Chakraborty, Master Trainer at IDP IELTS. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various schools of the university.

The masterclass aimed to familiarise students with the listening component of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and equip them with effective strategies to enhance their listening comprehension and examination performance. Ms Chakraborty provided valuable insights into the structure and assessment criteria of the IELTS Listening Test, highlighting the importance of attentive listening, identifying key information, understanding different accents and accurately interpreting spoken communication.

The session emphasised practical approaches to tackling various question types, including multiple-choice questions, matching exercises, sentence completion and note-taking tasks. Students were introduced to strategies for recognising keywords, anticipating information, managing time effectively and avoiding common examination mistakes. The masterclass also highlighted the importance of listening proficiency beyond standardised language tests, particularly in academic communication, international education and professional settings.

The interactive session enabled students to gain a clearer understanding of the IELTS examination requirements and the preparation strategies needed to achieve their target band scores. It also encouraged them to view language proficiency as an essential aspect of their academic and professional development.

As the second masterclass of the semester, the programme continued a series of initiatives designed to provide students with structured guidance on IELTS preparation and English language proficiency. The initiative reflects the commitment of SoLAS and the IELTS Club of DSA to strengthening students’ communication skills and preparing them for opportunities in international higher education and global careers. Through such expert-led sessions in collaboration with IDP IELTS, Presidency University continues to foster a learning environment that supports students’ academic ambitions and professional aspirations.
