The School of Information Science (SOIS), Presidency University, in association with the Office of the Dean – Academics and the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai, successfully organised a 10-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on 'Building Academic Excellence through Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment' from 29 June to 10 July 2026.

 

The programme was designed to strengthen faculty competencies in curriculum design, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), innovative pedagogical practices, assessment strategies, AI-enabled teaching, mentoring, academic leadership, and quality assurance. Bringing together 45 faculty members, the FDP featured expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, hands-on activities, lesson planning, teaching demonstrations, group presentations, reflective exercises, and assessment design workshops.

 

The programme was led by distinguished resource persons from NITTTR Chennai—Dr S. Saravana Perumaal, Dr B. Yogameena, Dr S. Sasirekha, and Dr P. Malliga—who shared contemporary practices aligned with NBA and NAAC quality frameworks, enabling participants to enhance teaching effectiveness and improve student learning outcomes.

 

Over the course of ten days, faculty members explored a wide range of topics, including professional ethics, communication, emotional intelligence, mentoring, leadership, research orientation, curriculum design, Bloom's Taxonomy, constructive alignment, syllabus planning, AI tools for teaching and learning, experiential learning, active learning strategies, blended learning, student engagement, assessment design, rubric development, CO–PO attainment, and accreditation requirements.

 

The FDP was convened by Dr Mahalakshmi R and Dr Jothi Basu, with Dr M. Renukadevi and Dr Vetrimani Elangovan serving as Co-Convenors. The programme was coordinated by Dr Saravana Kumar S., Ms Yogeetha B., Ms Devi S., Ms Ghazala Zameer, Ms Anjana D., Ms Akshatha G. R., and Mr Dinesh N.

 

Participants reported that the sessions were highly informative, interactive, and practical. The hands-on activities, collaborative discussions, and expert guidance enhanced their confidence in designing outcome-based curricula, developing effective lesson plans, creating meaningful assessments, and adopting student-centred teaching practices.

 

The Faculty Development Programme reaffirmed SOIS's commitment to fostering academic excellence by equipping educators with contemporary knowledge, innovative teaching methodologies, and best practices in curriculum design and assessment.
