SOD Stop-Motion Animation Workshop

28-August-2026

The Stop-Motion Animation Workshop was organised by the School of Design, Presidency University, for second-, third- and fourth-year students, providing hands-on experience in the fundamentals of stop-motion animation.

The workshop focused on the paper cut-out technique, enabling students to create animations using simple, readily available materials. Students were introduced to the basic principles of stop-motion, including timing, spacing, frame-by-frame movement, storyboarding, camera framing and production planning.

Working in teams, students created their own paper characters, props and backgrounds. They also built simple mobile phone camera rigs to maintain camera stability during filming.

The workshop encouraged students to understand the importance of teamwork, planning, creativity, patience and production discipline. It also helped them connect classroom learning with the practical animation production process.

The programme aimed to develop students’ interest in animation, filmmaking, visual storytelling and short-film production.
