SOAHS Student Development Programme on the Applied Science of the Nervous System
Presidency School of Allied Health Sciences successfully organised a four-day Student Development Programme titled “Human Physiology: Think. Feel. React. – The Applied Science of the Nervous System” from 9–12 June 2026 at Seminar Hall 1, F Block.
The programme was conducted to enhance students’ understanding of the nervous system and its applications in health sciences and clinical practice. The sessions were delivered by Mrs Neena Mathew Aaron, Associate Professor, Padmashree Group of Institutions, who brought over 25 years of teaching experience in Human Physiology and shared valuable academic expertise and practical insights with the participants.
The programme aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, explain the mechanisms of neural communication and coordination, and relate physiological concepts to clinical applications in healthcare. It also encouraged critical thinking and helped bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.
Over the four days, the lecture series focused on the structure, functions and clinical significance of the nervous system. Through interactive discussions, practical examples and clinical correlations, students gained a deeper understanding of the organisation of the nervous system, neuronal communication, sensory and motor pathways, reflex mechanisms, and the role of the nervous system in maintaining homeostasis.
The sessions were highly engaging, with active student participation through discussions and question-and-answer segments. A particularly valuable component of the programme was the detailed discussion on the clinical examination of sensory and motor systems using various diagnostic tools. This session highlighted their significance in assessment, diagnosis and patient management within the field of neurosciences.
By the end of the programme, students had developed a stronger understanding of the structure and functions of the nervous system, the physiological basis of sensory and motor activities, and the relevance of physiology in diagnosis, treatment and patient care. The programme also reinforced the importance of physiological knowledge in healthcare practice.
The Student Development Programme was successfully conducted and proved to be an enriching learning experience for all participants. The Presidency School of Allied Health Sciences extends its sincere gratitude to Mrs Neena Mathew Aaron for her valuable contribution and for delivering insightful and engaging sessions throughout the programme.
