SoAHS Organises World Obesity Day Awareness Event

On the occasion of World Obesity Day (4th March 2026), the Presidency School of Allied Health Sciences at Presidency University organised an awareness and academic engagement programme centred around the global theme: “Changing Systems, Healthier Lives.” The event aimed to promote awareness about obesity as a multifactorial health condition and emphasise the importance of systemic changes in nutrition, lifestyle, and healthcare practices.
Objectives of the Event
The programme was conducted with the following objectives:

To promote awareness about healthy nutrition and lifestyle practices.

To encourage scientific thinking and creativity among students.

To highlight innovative strategies to combat obesity at individual and community levels.
Event Activities
The event featured two major student-centred activities:
1. Digital Poster Presentation
Students actively participated by presenting digital posters based on obesity-related themes such as:

Causes and risk factors of obesity

Role of physical activity and exercise
-
Nutritional interventions
-
Childhood obesity
-
Obesity-related comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases)

Myths and facts about obesity

Community and policy-level preventive strategies
2. Student Talk
Selected students delivered short talks focusing on:

Lifestyle modification and obesity prevention

Public health implications
-
Behavioural and psychological aspects of obesity
Participation and Coordination
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various schools at Presidency University. Faculty coordinators provided academic guidance and ensured the smooth organisation of the programme. Student coordinators effectively managed registrations and the overall flow of the event.
The collaborative effort of faculty and students contributed significantly to the success of the programme.
