Shaping Future Journalists: Media Literacy Workshop Highlights Ethical Engagement

27-January-2025

Presidency School of Media Studies organised a workshop on "Media Literacy" on February 27, 2025. By providing students with the tools to critically engage with and produce responsible media, this media literacy workshop aimed to foster media professionals who are not only technically skilled but also ethically grounded and responsible. The key resource person was Mr. Uzair Rizvi, leading media literacy, training and partnerships at Logically Facts.

The speaker stressed that in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape, critical thinking is vital—particularly for media students. Mr. Rizvi highlighted India’s growing digital connectivity and the resulting flood of information across platforms, which makes it increasingly important to discern credible journalism from misinformation, bias, deep fakes, and sensationalism. He emphasized that media students play a pivotal role in shaping the future of journalism, underscoring the need for media literacy as a fundamental part of their education.

He concluded by encouraging students to be active, informed participants in the media landscape and use their voices to shape narratives that contribute to a well-informed society.
