‘Rasabiva’ Celebrates India’s Classical Dance Heritage
Rasabira: A Festival of Dance, presented by the Odisha Dance Academy (ODA) under the National Presence Scheme (2024–25) of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was held on October 24, 2025. The event aimed to immerse the audience in the divine rhythm, expression, and grace that define India’s centuries-old dance traditions.
The event was artistically curated by the eminent Padma Shri Guru Dr. Aruna Mohanty and graced by the Hon’ble Chancellor, Dr. Nissar Ahmed; Dr. Thiruvengadam, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Dr. Anu Sukhdev, Dean – Student Affairs; and renowned artists including Guru Mysore Nagaraj, Guru Vyjayanthi Kashi, Guru Poornima Guraj, Guru Sahana Das, along with other distinguished dignitaries.
The event opened with a mesmerising welcome dance – Shivamdhimaye, an Odissi performance by the Odisha Dance Academy. It was followed by two Kathak pieces, Pallavi and Tarana, a collaborative presentation by Bengaluru-based institutions — Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance, Nrityantar Academy, and Adyasha Foundation — paying tribute to Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Tarana was presented by Cornucopia Creations under the direction of Janardhan Raj Urs, showcasing rhythmic excellence and devotional energy.
The event concluded with a spectacular performance titled 'Jagannath Sahasranam' by the Odisha Dance Academy, seamlessly blending Odissi and folk-dance forms of Odisha. The presentation beautifully depicted the state’s rich cultural heritage — from the Kalinga War and Paika Bidroha to the sacred Rath Yatra — embodying the profound philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (“the world is one family”).
With powerful performances, artistic collaborations, and cultural exchange, Rasabiva stood as a glowing testament to India’s rich legacy of classical dance and its ability to transcend time, language, and geography.
