PSOCSE Inaugurates IEI Student Chapter and Launches Institutional Membership
The School of Computer Science and Engineering (PSCSE), in collaboration with the School of Artificial Intelligence & Applied Computing (PSAIAC) and the School of Engineering (PSOE), organised the Inauguration of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) Student Chapter and Institutional Membership Launch on 4 September 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Seminar Hall 4. The programme brought together around 120 students, drawn equally from the three schools, along with faculty members and Mr Manjunatha S, Executive, IEI Karnataka State Centre, Bengaluru. The inaugural session included an invocation, welcome address, ceremonial lamp lighting, an address by the IEI representative, certificate handover to the participating schools and a presidential address by Dr S. J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor.
The event provided students with an introduction to the Institution of Engineers (India), its professional activities and the opportunities offered through institutional and student membership. Mr Manjunatha S highlighted the benefits of engaging with a recognised professional engineering body, including opportunities for technical learning, professional networking, certifications and industry–academia interaction. The launch formally established the IEI Student Chapter at Presidency University and marked an important step towards strengthening students' engagement with professional engineering communities. A short video on IEI was also screened to familiarise participants with the organisation's history, mandate and activities.
The programme concluded with a technical talk titled “From Ideas to Insights: AI Tools for Next Generation Research”, delivered by Mr Piyush Keshari, Assistant Professor, PSCSE. The session introduced students to AI-enabled tools and techniques for academic and research work, including Elicit, GPAi and SciSpace, along with guidance on assessing the quality of journals. Overall, the event successfully combined professional chapter inauguration with practical research-oriented learning, encouraging students to participate in IEI activities, certifications and technical events while exploring AI tools to enhance their academic and research capabilities.
