PSAIAC Students Explore AI Applications in Sustainable Agriculture at UAS, Bengaluru
The Harvest Club of the Department of AI & Robotics (AIR), Presidency School of Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Computing (PSAIAC), organised an industrial visit to the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra (GKVK), Bengaluru, on 30 September 2026.
A total of 58 B.Tech students from the CAI and RAI programmes, accompanied by two faculty coordinators, participated in the visit themed “From Numbers to Nature: Exploring the Intersection of AI, Statistics and Agricultural Sciences for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”
The visit provided students with hands-on exposure to soil science, apiculture, horticulture, nursery management and plant propagation. It also helped them understand real-world agricultural challenges that can be addressed using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), the Internet of Things (IoT), Computer Vision, Data Analytics and geospatial technologies.
Students visited the Soil Museum and College of Agriculture, where they explored soil profiles, Karnataka’s agro-climatic zones, soil testing practices and digital soil management tools. At the Department of Apiculture, students observed managed bee colonies, hive systems and pollination practices, as well as facilities such as the HAL–UASB Honey Testing Laboratory.
The final session, conducted by the Department of Horticulture, featured demonstrations of nursery management and plant propagation techniques, including grafting, budding and layering.
The visit encouraged students to identify technology-driven solutions to agricultural challenges, including AI-based plant disease detection, IoT-enabled soil monitoring, geospatial soil mapping, smart beehives, automated nursery management and data-driven advisory systems for farmers.
Interactions with UAS experts helped students appreciate the importance of combining domain knowledge with emerging technologies to develop practical, farmer-centric solutions. The visit also inspired them to explore agri-tech projects, internships and research opportunities in smart and sustainable agriculture.
Overall, the industrial visit fostered experiential, interdisciplinary and application-oriented learning, enabling students to connect classroom concepts with real-world agricultural practices and explore the potential of emerging technologies in advancing sustainable agriculture.
