Presidency University Marks 70th Kannada Rajyotsava with Vibrant Festivities

Presidency University celebrated the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava with remarkable pride and splendour on November 22, 2025, honouring Karnataka’s heritage, art, and linguistic identity. The event witnessed a huge participation of over 2000 students.

The celebration commenced with a grand cultural procession from the university’s main gate, featuring traditional art forms such as Yakshagana, Dollu Kunitha, Veeragase, Hulivesha, Tamate, and Pooje Kunitha, creating an atmosphere filled with rhythm and devotion. The formal inaugural ceremony commenced with a graceful welcome dance, with dignitaries lighting the ceremonial lamp accompanied by the soulful Naada Geethe, symbolising peace and unity.

Chief Guest Dr. B. R. Manjunath addressed the gathering and shared insightful perspectives on cultural preservation. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, in her inspiring address, emphasised the importance of Karnataka’s cultural legacy and the message of equality reflected through folk dance traditions.

The cultural showcase featured an array of vibrant performances, including Kannadambe Art by Mr. Bharath Bhupathi, classical and contemporary dance pieces, soulful solo singing, a captivating Yakshagana segment, an engaging fashion walk, and the theatrical act “Immadi Pulakeshi”.

Special guests elevated the celebrations—Kannada stand-up comedian Nithin Kamath kept the crowd entertained with his humour, while Indian playback singer Sanjith Hegde mesmerised the audience with his soulful renditions and officially released a song from the upcoming Kannada film “Bharathi Teacher". The celebrations concluded with a spirited Folk and Tamate performance, leaving the audience energised and delighted.

The event served as a vibrant tribute to Karnataka’s cultural heritage and a celebration of unity within the Presidency University community. It was successfully organised by the Department of Student Affairs and the Department of Languages, under the leadership of Dr. Anu Sukhdev, Dean – Student Affairs, and Dr. Pritha Sanyal, HOD – Department of Languages.
