Presidency University Hosts Inaugural Orientation for the First Batch of SOLAS and Incoming Students of SOMS

Presidency Schools of Media Studies and Liberal Arts & Sciences conducted their combined five-day orientation program for the freshers from July 21 to 25, 2025. The orientation commenced with welcoming the new students and their families and offered a comprehensive introduction to academic life, campus culture, and institutional values.



The inaugural session was graced by the presence of the University’s senior leadership and dignitaries. Dr. S. J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor In-Charge; Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Sameena Noor Ahmed Panali, Registrar; various school/department heads; and faculty members. They addressed the students with inspiring words, encouraging them to make the most of the academic and co-curricular opportunities at Presidency.



Highlights of the first day included foundational sessions on assessments, academic regulations, career progression, ERP systems, campus navigation, and mentorship. Students gained valuable insights through sessions on gender sensitisation, student well-being, and curriculum orientation.



The second day had interactive components like a Creative Expression Challengean L&D workshop, and an IELTS introduction that promoted self-discovery and global readiness. The week also featured exploratory activities such as media lab and library visits, a photographic excursion to Nandi Hills, and a media literacy workshop.



The program concluded with a storytelling workshop and a film screening, fostering creativity and community bonding.



Overall, the orientation celebrated the launch of SOLAS and the continued growth of SOMS, reinforcing the university’s mission to nurture critical thinkers, responsible citizens, and engaged learners within a multidisciplinary, inclusive, and future-ready academic environment.
