NSS Unit 3 Marks International Literacy Day with ‘Path to Progress’ Outreach
NSS Unit 3 conducted an outreach programme at Government PU College, Rajanukunte, on 16 September 2026 to mark International Literacy Day. Organised under the theme Path to Progress, the programme engaged students through interactive activities focused on self-awareness, empathy, communication, teamwork, creativity, concentration, emotional expression and goal setting. More than 30 NSS volunteers participated in organising and facilitating the programme.
The session moved beyond traditional classroom learning, encouraging students to learn through participation, reflection and collaboration. Activities such as ‘Who Am I?’, ‘The Twist Challenge’, ‘Find Your Interest’, ‘Team Presento’, ‘One Word Story’ and ‘Anonymous Letters of Friendship’ helped students explore their strengths, understand different perspectives, develop communication and teamwork skills, reflect on their future goals and express themselves in a positive environment.
The programme highlighted that literacy extends beyond reading and writing. Students were encouraged to understand themselves and others, communicate effectively, think critically, make responsible choices and contribute positively to society. The activities also provided opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, empathy, leadership and problem-solving skills while connecting learning to situations from everyday life.
For the NSS volunteers, the programme was an opportunity to strengthen their leadership, coordination, communication and organisational skills. The active participation of the students and volunteers contributed to an engaging and meaningful International Literacy Day observance, bringing the theme Path to Progress to life through practical learning and meaningful interaction.
