Masterclass on “Preparing for Careers in Psychology”
Presidency School of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs (OIA), organised an insightful masterclass titled “Preparing for Careers in Psychology” on November 27, 2025.
This masterclass featured Prof. Olivia Goncalves, Deputy Director of Foundation Psychology and Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Birmingham, as the keynote speaker. Her session provided students with valuable guidance on navigating the diverse career pathways within the field of psychology.
Prof. Goncalves discussed essential academic skills, professional competencies, and experiential learning opportunities that students should pursue to establish a strong foundation for future careers. She emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge, research exposure, internships, and developing strong communication skills. Her engaging presentation helped demystify the global landscape of psychological professions and offered practical steps for students aspiring to study or work abroad.
The event successfully drew participation from postgraduate students of psychology. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to interact with an international academic and gain clarity on career planning. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, during which Prof. Goncalves addressed student queries about specialisation, admissions, and emerging areas in psychology.
