Kal-Utsav’26 – A Celebration of India’s Cultural Diversity
Presidency University came alive on 26th September 2026 with Kal-Utsav’26 – The Cultural Carnival, bringing together 8,000+ students in a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage.
A Feast for the Senses
The campus was adorned with vibrant decorations, colorful lights, and thematic zones that created a festive atmosphere. Food stalls offered regional delicacies, letting everyone savor flavors from across the country. Crafts and merchandise stalls added charm, giving students the chance to take home a piece of the celebration.
CULTURAL PROCESSION:
The event began with a spectacular state-wise cultural procession, showcasing the traditions and folk arts of India. Tamil Nadu presented Kalai Kulu & Parai, Kerala showcased Chenda Melam, Kathakali & Mohiniyattam, and Karnataka brought Dollu Kunitha, Kamsale, Tamate, Veeragase, Pooja Kunitha, Goravara Kunitha, Gobe Kunitha and Yakshagana. Uttar Pradesh & Bihar presented a Radha–Krishna theme with a walking robotic elephant, while Rajasthan added vibrant Raja–Rani mascots and folk student performers.
The Northeast represented Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim, celebrating the region’s perse traditions. West Bengal presented the dramatic beauty of Dhunuchi Naach, accompanied by powerful representations of Durga Maa and Asura, creating a striking festive spectacle and Odisha highlighted its rich devotional heritage with a beautifully crafted Jagannath Temple chariot model, while Punjab brought the energy of Bhangra. Maharashtra & Goa presented Lavani with Dhol, and Andhra Pradesh & Telangana added a lively touch with bull mascots, energetic drummers and colourful stilt walkers with student performers who interacted with the audience throughout the procession.
A Grand State Folk Dance Showcase
Following the procession, the State Procession Showcase continued on the Main Stage, featuring vibrant presentations by students representing different regions of the country.
As the day progressed, the festive spirit reached its peak with the Dandiya Evening and DJ, bringing students together in a colourful celebration of music, dance and camaraderie.
The evening blended the traditional energy of Dandiya and Garba with contemporary beats, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, joy and togetherness. The dance floor became a vibrant reflection of the University's perse student community coming together as one.
Kal-Utsav’26 was more than a cultural event—it was a celebration of India's identity. From the beats of Parai and Chenda Melam to the grace of Mohiniyattam, from Bhangra and Lavani to the vibrant traditions of the Northeast, and from the grandeur of Yakshagana and Kathakali to the devotional splendour of Jagannath and Durga Maa, every performance told a story of India's diverse cultural heritage.
With 8,000+ students coming together to celebrate, Kal-Utsav’26 created a powerful message of unity, belonging and cultural pride—demonstrating how diverse traditions can come together to create one unforgettable celebration.
