Innovative Engineering: VGST-Sponsored FDP on Drone-Based Surveying & Digital Mapping
The Department of Civil Engineering, Presidency School of Engineering, successfully organised a VGST-Sponsored Five-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Beyond the Horizon: Innovative Engineering Practices with Drone-Based Surveying and Digital Mapping" from February 17-21, 2025. This prestigious event brought together experts from academia and industry to explore the latest advancements in drone technology, geospatial mapping, and digital surveying.
The event was inaugurated by key officials, Dr. Sameena Noor Ahmed Panali, Registrar and Associate Director—Office of the Chancellor; Dr. Abdul Sharief, Dean School of Engineering; Dr. Murali Mohan, Dean Sponsored Research; Dr. Sivaperumal S., Dean Academics and Director International Relations; and Mr. Rahul Ramanna, Assistant Vice President, NewSpace Research and Technologies, in the presence of distinguished faculty members and participants.
The FDP featured interactive lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on sessions, covering a wide range of topics including drone technology and UAV fundamentals, surveying techniques & data collection, GIS mapping & data processing, and a site visit to Nagarakere Lake.
This FDP was a remarkable success, equipping faculty members with cutting-edge skills in drone surveying and geospatial mapping. The event's success was attributed to the tireless efforts of the organizing team, led by Dr. Shwetha A, Convener, and Dr. Nakul Ramanna, Co-Convener, along with Mr. Karthik M. H. and Mr. Bibang Gwra Basumatry, who served as both resource people and coordinators. The seamless execution of sessions was ensured by the Masters of Ceremony—Mr. N. Gopalakrishnan and Mr. Punit T. Marekkanavar, whose professionalism and enthusiasm kept the event lively.
