Guest Lecture Series Explores Language, Culture & Technology in the Digital Age

The Department of Languages, Presidency University, successfully organised a guest lecture on "Language, Culture, and Technology" on April 4, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Prita Sanyal, Head, Department of Langauges, Presidency University.



The sessions included keynote speakers, including Dr Muskaan, Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Christ University, Bengaluru; Dr Surya Kiran, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator for BA English, Department of English and Cultural Studies at Christ University, Bengaluru; Dr Payel Dutta Chowdhury, researcher and Marketing and Communications Content Specialist (Asia, Africa & Oceania), American Welding Society, Doral, Florida, USA; and Dr Himabindu Chintakunta, University of Hyderabad.



The event featured a series of thought-provoking lectures exploring the intersection of language, culture, literature, and technologyDr. Muskaan opened with a session on "Linguistics in the Digital Era", examining how technological innovation has influenced language evolution, from netspeak to generational communication gapsMr. Surya Kiran followed with a talk on "Cultural Identity in the Age of Digital Media", exploring how digital platforms shape cultural representation, belonging, and the emotional impact of algorithm-driven narrativesDr. Payal Dutta Chowdhury’s session explored "Literature in the Age of AI and Globalisation", focusing on AI-generated literature, language models, and the ethical implications of AI in creative writing.



The series concluded with Dr. Himabindu Chintakunta’s lecture on the transformation of knowledge production through the coexistence of print and digital media, highlighting the importance of democratising access to knowledge.
