The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) successfully organised a Guest Lecture on “Basics of Intellectual Property Rights and Its Importance for Innovators and Entrepreneurs” on 21st January 2026, from 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., for the target audience 6EEE01.

 

The session was delivered by Mr Vineeth Kumar S R, Project Engineer, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). The lecture provided a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and their relevance in today’s innovation-driven environment.

 

During the lecture, the speaker explained the various types of IPR, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs. He highlighted the importance of protecting innovative ideas from unauthorised use and infringement, and emphasised the crucial role of IPR in fostering research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

 

The session also discussed how effective IPR protection helps in building brand value and gaining a competitive advantage in the market. In addition, an overview of the IPR filing and protection process was provided, offering valuable practical insights to the participants.

 

Overall, the guest lecture successfully created awareness about the significance of safeguarding intellectual property for sustainable innovation and business growth, benefiting students and aspiring innovators alike.
