Focused Research Methodology in Literature and Language

28-January-2026

The workshop on Focused Research Methodology in Literature and Language, organised by the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, provided an intensive and academically enriching platform for research scholars. Designed to address key challenges faced during doctoral research, the session focused on strengthening methodological clarity and research planning.

The workshop covered essential aspects of research methodology, beginning with approaches to literature review, including thematic, chronological, methodological, and theoretical frameworks. Participants were guided on how and where to source relevant literature, with detailed discussions on academic databases, subject-specific repositories, journals, search engine databases, open-access platforms, thesis databases, academic social networks, and grey literature. The session also emphasised effective strategies for organising and synthesising key findings from the review of literature.

Further discussions explored expected outcomes and findings of a thesis, highlighting how outcomes differ from, but are equally significant as, research findings. The workshop concluded with practical pointers for preparing and focusing on the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) meeting, offering clarity on aligning research progress with institutional expectations.

The workshop witnessed active participation from research scholars, who engaged thoughtfully with the discussions and raised pertinent queries related to their individual research trajectories. Overall, the session was well-structured and impactful, reinforcing the university’s commitment to research excellence and academic mentorship while equipping scholars with practical tools to advance their doctoral work effectively.
