FDP ON EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING STRATEGIES FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEACHING

03-February-2026

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences organised a five-day Faculty Development Programme on Experiential Learning Strategies for Higher Education, with the inaugural session titled “Designing Classrooms that Think: Building Experience-Rich Learning Spaces.” The session was led by Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor, Presidency University.

Drawing on ancient learning traditions such as the Jataka Tales and the teachings of Chanakya, Dr. Shetty highlighted how experiential learning, storytelling, and ethical reasoning have long been central to meaningful education. She linked these ideas to the evolving realities of contemporary classrooms, where student learning styles continue to change.

Emphasising the importance of activity-based and learner-centric pedagogy, the session demonstrated how experience-rich classrooms can enhance student engagement, sustain attention, and foster critical thinking. The talk offered valuable insights into reimagining classrooms as dynamic learning spaces aligned with the principles of experiential learning and caters to creating a holistic learning environment.
