Experiential Volunteering Day on Disability Inclusion and Community Engagement

10-December-2025

The ISR Cell, in collaboration with the Allied Health School of Presidency University, organised an Experiential Volunteering Day on 10 December at Ocenick Educational Society. During the visit, students interacted closely with learners and staff, gaining valuable insights into inclusivity, diversity, and community-based support systems.

Students also participated in an informative session on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, which covered its key provisions, amendments, and implications for healthcare professionals. In addition, an introductory workshop on Indian Sign Language enabled students to appreciate the importance of accessible communication and engage more effectively with individuals with hearing impairments.

This experiential learning opportunity strengthened students’ empathy, communication skills, and awareness of disability rights, while reinforcing their responsibilities as future inclusive health practitioners. The programme contributed directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being)SDG 4 (Quality Education)SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
