The Department of Physics, School of Engineering, organised an offline seminar titled “A Journey from Electrons to Qubits” on 16 September 2026 at Seminar Hall 4, E Block. The session, held from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm, was convened by Dr Mohan Kumar Naidu, Head of the Department of Physics, and coordinated by Dr Naveen C S, Assistant Professor – Selection Grade. The seminar was attended by 100 students, 11 faculty members and one external participant.

The session was delivered by Dr Shivananda C. S., Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (Sir MVIT), Bengaluru. He introduced participants to the evolution from conventional electronic systems to quantum information technologies, covering fundamental concepts such as quantum mechanics, quantum states, superposition, qubits and quantum computing. The seminar also highlighted emerging applications of quantum technologies in computing, communication and sensing, helping students connect fundamental physics concepts with contemporary technological developments.

The event received a positive response from participants, with 94.1% of feedback respondents rating the seminar as Good, Very Good or Excellent. The interactive session enhanced students’ awareness of quantum technologies and encouraged them to explore further learning and research opportunities in the field. Overall, the seminar successfully highlighted the growing relevance of physics in next-generation technologies and provided students with valuable exposure to the fundamentals and applications of quantum computing.
