Dept of Petroleum Engineering Celebrates Engineers’ Day 2026 with Distinguished Lecture on Sustainable Energy

15-September-2026

The Department of Petroleum Engineering, Presidency School of Engineering, organised an Online Distinguished Lecture (DL) on “Engineering the Future: Innovating for a Sustainable Energy World” as part of the Engineers’ Day 2026 celebrations on 15 September 2026, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Tarkeshwar Kumar, Retired Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Former Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

The lecture aimed to provide B.Tech. Petroleum Engineering students and faculty members with insights into the evolving role of engineers in addressing global energy challenges, promoting environmental sustainability and driving technological advancements.

The session explored emerging engineering innovations, the changing global energy landscape, and the integration of conventional and renewable energy technologies. Key areas of focus included digitalisation, intelligent energy systems, energy efficiency, hydrogen technologies, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), decarbonisation and net-zero strategies. The lecture also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, responsible engineering practices and technological innovation in strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable development.

The lecture aimed to enhance students’ understanding of emerging energy technologies, bridge the gap between classroom learning and contemporary industrial applications, and foster awareness of the professional responsibilities of engineers. The session was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Overall, the lecture provided an opportunity to strengthen industry-oriented learning and inspire students to contribute towards a technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable energy future.
