The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Presidency University, Bengaluru, in association with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), successfully organised a Master Class on “Future of Power Distribution: Smart Grid Technologies and Emerging Challenges” on 3 September 2026 at Presidency University.

About the Master Class

 

The Master Class provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the evolution and modernisation of power distribution systems and their role in ensuring reliable, efficient, resilient and sustainable power delivery.

 

The session covered key aspects of smart grid architecture, distribution automation, smart metering, renewable energy integration, distributed energy resources, demand-side management, energy management, real-time monitoring and intelligent control.

 

The Master Class also highlighted emerging challenges associated with the integration of electric vehicles, energy storage systems, distributed generation and renewable energy sources into modern distribution networks. Participants gained insights into industry practices, grid modernisation initiatives, communication technologies, cybersecurity, power quality, regulatory requirements and practical implementation challenges.

 

The session strengthened participants’ technical and professional understanding while providing valuable exposure to real-world applications and emerging career opportunities in smart grids, modern power distribution and sustainable energy management.
