Dept of Civil Engg. Hosts World Water Day Seminar on Water and Gender
The Department of Civil Engineering, in association with the Forum of Civil Engineering and ACCE (I) – Student Chapter, Presidency University, successfully organised a World Water Day seminar on “Water and Gender: Bridging the Gap for Sustainable Water Management.” The event was conducted in the presence of the Head of the Department, Dr Nakul Ramanna, along with faculty members and students.
The session was delivered by Er. Vishwanath Srikantaiah, Director, Biome Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd., who emphasised the critical relationship between water access and gender equality. He provided valuable insights into India’s water scenario, highlighting key challenges such as increasing water demand, groundwater depletion, rapid urbanisation, and the impacts of climate change.
The resource person underscored that water is a finite and vulnerable resource and stressed the importance of efficient and participatory water management involving communities, policymakers, and various stakeholders. The seminar also offered students a broader understanding of global water challenges, the role of gender in water access and management, and sustainable approaches for equitable water governance.
The event was coordinated by faculty members Dr Venkatesha Raju K, Mr Santhosh M B, and Mr Gopalakrishnan, whose efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
The seminar was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Clean Water and Sanitation and Gender Equality, reinforcing the importance of inclusive and sustainable water management practices.
