Dept. of Civil Engg Hosts Webinar on Sustainable Heritage Management
The Department of Civil Engineering, Presidency University, Bengaluru, organised a highly engaging webinar on Sustainable Heritage Management in collaboration with the University of Liverpool. The session was delivered by Dr. Ataa Alsalloum, Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool.
The webinar offered valuable insights into the conservation and management of cultural heritage, emphasising the interdisciplinary nature of heritage studies by integrating perspectives from engineering, architecture, archaeology and planning. Participants gained an understanding of global frameworks such as UNESCO heritage conventions, along with practical approaches including digital documentation, photogrammetry and heritage modelling.
Real-world case studies, including heritage management planning for internationally recognised sites, illustrated the challenges of balancing conservation with development. The session also highlighted career pathways and research opportunities in the heritage sector, reinforcing the importance of sustainable and community-centred conservation practices.
Overall, the webinar enriched participants’ understanding of heritage preservation and underscored the critical role of integrated approaches in safeguarding cultural assets for future generations.
