The Department of Civil Engineering at Presidency University, Bengaluru, conducted an eight-day Extensive Survey Project for fifth-semester B.Tech Civil Engineering students from 29 July to 6 August 2026 at SS Ghati, near Ghati Subramanya Temple, Doddaballapur. The field-based programme, convened by Dr Nakul R and coordinated by Mr Bhavan Kumar M, provided 34 students with practical exposure to modern surveying techniques and methodologies. A total of 12 faculty members supported the programme, with accommodation arranged at Udayam Resort, SS Ghati, to facilitate effective learning, collaboration and field activities.

The project covered a range of real-world civil engineering applications, including topographic surveying for a new tank project, highway surveying, water supply and sanitation planning, and drone-based surveying. Students worked with advanced equipment such as Total Stations and PPK-based drones to collect, analyse and interpret field data. Through these activities, they developed practical skills in terrain assessment, elevation profiling, contour mapping, road alignment and cross-section analysis, drainage assessment, water distribution and sanitation network planning, as well as aerial photogrammetry and geospatial mapping.

The Extensive Survey Project successfully bridged classroom learning with practical field experience, strengthening students’ technical competencies and problem-solving abilities. The programme also encouraged teamwork, field leadership and project coordination in real-world conditions. Exposure to contemporary surveying technologies and industry-oriented methodologies enhanced the students’ preparedness for careers in infrastructure development, urban planning, surveying and smart-city mapping, making the project a valuable component of their professional and academic development.
