Department of Petroleum Engineering Hosts Industry Talk for PetroGenesis 2026
The Department of Petroleum Engineering, Presidency School of Engineering, organised an Industry Talk on “Building Future Energy Professionals for a Sustainable World” as part of the PetroGenesis 2026 – B.Tech. Petroleum Engineering Induction Programme on 14 August 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm at Seminar Hall 2.
The session was delivered by Mr Rakshith S. Dudi, Engineer – Process, Shell India Markets Private Limited, Chennai, and an alumnus of the 2015–2019 batch.
The Industry Talk provided students with an engaging introduction to the petroleum and energy sector and familiarised them with the evolving professional landscape of the industry. The programme was particularly aimed at first-year students, helping them understand the scope of Petroleum Engineering and its relevance to contemporary energy challenges.
The interaction offered valuable industry insights into the evolving global energy landscape, sustainable energy practices, emerging petroleum technologies, digital transformation, environmental stewardship, and career opportunities across the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors. It also highlighted the changing role of petroleum engineers and the importance of developing competencies aligned with sustainability-driven engineering practices.
A key focus of the session was the need for students to complement their academic knowledge with technical competencies, communication skills, leadership qualities, professional ethics, multidisciplinary teamwork, innovation and lifelong learning. The interaction helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice by familiarising students with industry expectations and the competencies required for successful professional growth.
The session also emphasised the importance of internships, higher education, industry–academia collaboration, entrepreneurship and continuous professional development in building successful careers in the energy sector.
Overall, PetroGenesis 2026 provided a valuable platform for introducing students to the opportunities and responsibilities associated with the petroleum and broader energy sectors. The Industry Talk enhanced students’ industry awareness, professional orientation and career preparedness while fostering an appreciation of sustainable engineering practices. The session also encouraged students to pursue continuous learning and professional development, supporting the broader objective of preparing future-ready energy professionals capable of contributing effectively to a rapidly transforming energy industry.
