Presidency University had the honour of hosting Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai on campus for the launch of his book “2024: The Election that Surprised India” on February 15, 2025.

 

The event was a significant literary gathering, bringing together students, faculty, and esteemed guests to engage in insightful discussions on Indian politics, journalism, and the democratic process. With around 600 students in attendance, the event provided an enriching experience for all participants.

 

The event commenced with an official meet-and-greet session of Mr. Sardesai with the university key officials. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Nissar Ahmed, Honb’le Chancellor, along with key officials Dr. Vijayan Immanuel, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sameena Noor Ahmed Panali, Registrar, Dr. Anu Sukhdev, Dean – Student Affairs, Sports and Student Discipline and Ms. Aditi Avasthi. Head – Corporate Communication, Media and Public Relations. 

 

Dr Immanuel, in his welcome address, emphasised the significance of literature in understanding socio-political landscapes. The addressing was followed by the felicitation of Mr. Sardesai and Ms. Maya Sharma and an official book reveal by Dr. Ahmed, Honb’le Chancellor and Dr. Immanuel.  

 

The event featured a thought-provoking conversation between Ms. Sharma and Mr. Sardesai, delving into the book’s themes and the 2024 elections. Mr. Sardesai also read select passages, offering valuable insights into his narrative and analysis. A lively Q&A session followed, with the audience actively engaging in the discussion.

 

The event concluded with book signings, where attendees had the opportunity to get their copies signed by the author, adding a personal touch to the experience.

 

The successful book launch blended literature, journalism, and politics, inspiring students to critically explore democracy and media influence while reinforcing the University’s commitment to intellectual dialogue.
