Is Artificial Intelligence dominating the Human Intelligence?
One of the prime aspects of being human which sets us apart is our intelligence. According to the “Multiple Intelligence Theory” by ‘Howard Gardner’ a normal individual possesses 9 types of intelligence - logical, linguistic, emotional, visual, interpersonal, musical, intrapersonal, naturalistic and existential intelligence. For centuries, human intelligence has played a central role in progress of the mankind and the world innovation, critical thinking and creativity. However, today in the era of transformation, we are experiencing intelligence, which is no longer exclusively human, also known as Artificial intelligence.
In a short span of time, AI has taken away the limelight due to its speed, precision, personalization, decision making skills and ability to deal with big data. Application of AI is no more limited to one domain. There are many use cases of AI across industries including: Health care, Education, Banking & Finance, E-commerce, Logistics & Supply chain management, manufacturing, media & entertainment etc.
Artificial Intelligence has entered our classrooms as well with our industry-based AI enabled courses, playing the role of co-creator. There are cases where students have completed their assignments, case analysis, creative content design as well as strategic planning in few seconds or minutes. In few cases, students use the AI content as a base and refine it further with their knowledge and skills. However, in most of the cases, AI is being used blindly, limiting the human’s ability to think and use its intelligence. This in turn, raises various questions in my mind-
Is Artificial Intelligence dominating the Human Intelligence?
If AI will do all the thinking, what will happen to human intelligence?
At the functional level it appears that Artificial Intelligence has outgrown the human intelligence. It is no longer just a technology, its writing, analysing, planning as well as designing, that too faster than humans. But can AI really dominate human intelligence and cognitive skills such as empathy, values, creativity and intuition driven decision making? Or AI can help us redefine and uplift human intelligence like other technological tools and platforms?
I think answer to these questions depends on individuals and how they engage with AI. Over dependence on Artificial intelligence will surely impact the existence of human intelligence and its unused capabilities. But that does not make Artificial intelligence our enemy. Real problem is not the data driven, logical capabilities of AI. The real problem is to undermine the human intelligence and completely rely on Artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence along with human intelligence can be one of the best enablers leading to faster innovations and strategic implementation.
Human intelligence is like a muscle; it becomes stronger when you use it and becomes weak if kept unused. It’s time for us to decide, whether we want to completely depend on Artificial Intelligence or want to trust our human intelligence (which is beyond data driven intelligence) to refine the AI generated results.
Will you trust your human intelligence and let it refine the AI results?
Or
Will you let AI do the thinking for you and let it outgrow your human intelligence?
The choice is completely yours. Its time for us to reflect and reconsider your own capabilities along with artificial intelligence. Believe in you will love the new you who feels empowered with this amazing technology not dependent on it.
