The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a live online “A Webinar & Panel Discussion on Skills and Pathway Towards Embedded Software Industry for ECE students” by resource persons Mr. Saurav Kumar Singh, Senior Software Engineer, Broadcom Inc., Bangalore, Mr. Devesh Kumar Gupta, Senior Software Engineer, IBM, Bangalore, Mr. Narayan Kittur, R&D SW Management, Data Center Solutions Group, Broadcom, Taiwan, Mr. Rakendra Thapa, Senior Member, Technical Staff, VMware Inc., Bangalore on 10th April 2021 for its ECE students of 2nd and 3rd Year.
The Program started with a Welcome note by Mrs. Aruna. The program was graced by the presence of Dr. C. S. Ramesh (Dean, Research and Innovation), Dr. P S Venkataramu (Dean, Academics), Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh (HOD, ECE Department), Dr. Shilpa Mehta (Professor, ECE Department) and teaching staffs of Presidency University, Bangalore. The talk focused on embedded system, embedded software, current trends and career paths in the field of embedded software industry.
The speakers started off with the basics of embedded systems technology, how this is going to make a change in lives of the people and also the world. Students were informed about embedded systems applications and a wide range of technologies that are used across an array of industries. Some of the applications from which inferences were taken include: Automobiles, mobile phones, industrial machines, medical equipment etc. Students were briefed about the working and characteristics of embedded system. In addition to this, how embedded automation systems are leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to help monitor and make recommendations to operators acting as the human interface was discussed. A clear idea about how embedded system specialize in tasks such as monitoring or controlling of the systems and designed to maximize performance, improve power efficiency and control processes while operating in demanding environments was explained by the speakers.
The session ended with a panel discussion on tools used by professionals in the field of embedded systems which includes version control (git, svn), editor for high productivity (vim, emacs, vscode), debugging (gdb), unit testing (check, unity, cunit), browsing a big code base (ctags, cscope, gtags, ccls, clangd) to name a few. The students actively participated in this discussion
. The speakers also shared their experience by recalling their journey since they joined embedded industry after their post-graduation. A vote-of-thanks was proposed by Mrs. Anupama Sindgi at the end of the event. We received a very positive feedback from the participants. The event was organized meticulously by the Forum Team of ECE department which comprises of faculty members Dr. M.S Divya Rani, Mrs. Samreen Fiza, Mrs. Aruna M and Mrs. Anupama Sindgi.
